Holidays!

When designing an MMO, there is one key thing that players will be looking for that you might overlook or consider to be back-burner material vs. “we need to have this” and that is events taking into account the various holidays of the year.

Take it from me, you have to have holiday events, or your MMO just won’t stand the litmus test against the competition.

Fans

Saturday night we had our last Meet & Greet for the year, the fans of CoH came out and met the people who worked on the game, and had an opportunity to ask questions and get a sneak peek at upcoming stuff.

From a dev’s point of view, this is not as easy as it sounds.

One of the innovations that WoW brought to the MMO genre was the ability to immediately identify which NPC has a quest or mission for you to do, and it was an innovation that came out of how Warcraft III gave you side-missions. That innovation is known today as the “quest bang” or “!” for short.
